Chlorella and Heavy Metals: Will Chlorella Flush Out Heavy Metals?

Chlorella and Heavy Metals ImageHeavy metal contamination in the body can affect your health and lead to serious illnesses. Heavy metal toxins can be partly responsible for serious conditions such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Even if they do not lead to a severe illness, they can cause a variety of symptoms: tiredness, allergies and headaches. Heavy metals in the body are also thought to be linked to many psychological problems, behavioral problems and learning disabilities. One of the most common contaminant is mercury and there has been a growing concern over the years about the use of mercury in dental amalgam fillings. New studies have shown that a green algae called chlorella can be beneficial in removing heavy metals and other toxins from our bodies. As people become more concerned about toxins like mercury, dioxin, insecticides, pesticides, PCBs, cadmium, arsenic and uranium getting into their bodies in foods they eat and air they breath, they look for a food supplement that will help their bodies detox. Now there is a food supplement that is safe and easy to take called chlorella that helps with heavy metal detox.

Chlorella is a single cell green algae found in fresh waters all over of the world. It is about the size of a human red blood cell. That is 2 to 8 microns in diameter - small but powerful. It gets its name from the Greek "chloros" meaning green and the Latin "ella" meaning smallish. It is not only a good detoxing agent, but is rich in protein, vitamins and minerals. Chlorella has been used in some of the better colon cleansing and heavy metal detox regimens for some time.

Chlorella and Heavy Metals Don't Mix!

How does chlorella work? Chlorella cleanses heavy metals by releasing them from the body's cells and then carrying them out of the body. Many detox methods are only able to release the metals into the bloodstream, but chlorella has a unique ability to bind itself to the metals so that they will be purged through normal elimination. Other chlorella benefits include its high content of chlorophyll, known for its detoxifying power. As well as chlorophyll this micro-algae is rich in many minerals and vitamins, and these will keep your body healthy and supply it with nutrients while you detox. Chlorella can also help to relieve the side effects of detoxing, such as headaches or tiredness. It is thought that the fibrous material in chlorella acts as an ion exchange resin binding with toxins, trapping them in the GI tract where they can be eliminated as feces or urine. Chlorella and heavy metals bind to remove them from the blood, tissues and intestinal tract of our bodies. If the toxins are regularly removed from our bodies, we can live healthier lives, and be more resistant to diseases and conditions caused by toxins in our systems.

Heavy metal detox is a process that many people believe is necessary in a world where mercury, dioxin, PCBs, cadmium and many other toxins are in the air we breath, food we eat and water we drink. You even get mercury from tooth fillings and sea food. Many diseases are attributed to the declining quality of our air and water. If we can't clean up the water and air we drink and breath, at least we can clean the toxins out of our bodies with heavy metal detox supplements that include chlorella.

Chlorella can be purchased in several different forms including powder, liquid and capsules, as well as in colon cleanse products and greens drinks. It is classified as a whole food supplement. Many companies that process chlorella crack the outer cell wall to make it even more digestible and effective. Taking chlorella as a food supplement is easier than doing the whole colon cleanse regimen, and still removes large quantities of toxins from our bodies while giving us much needed nutrients.
